In response to the growing demand for LCD Televisions, sources claim that Sony plans to begin acquiring panels from Sharp. This is in addition to its joint venture with Samsung.
Sony aims to double LCD TV sales to about 20 million units in the business year starting April, and the volume of its panel procurement from Sharp will likely come to the equivalent of 3 to 5 million 40-inch-class panels in the following year, the Nikkei said.
You know it is hilarious and sad all at the same time. With all of the effort that is put into data encryption, to see it thwarted by something as simple as canned air just goes to show how far we still have to go.
When the chips were chilled using an inexpensive can of air, the data was frozen in place, permitting the researchers to easily read the keys — long strings of ones and zeros — out of the chip’s memory.

We’ve often heard that sometimes you’d like to write a post now and have it automatically published at some time in the future. We listened, and are pleased to say that this feature is ready for you to try out on Blogger in draft.
Using the infrared camera in the Wii remote and a head mounted sensor bar (two IR LEDs), you can accurately track the location of your head and render view dependent images on the screen.
This effectively transforms your display into a portal to a virtual environment. The display properly reacts to head and body movement as if it were a real window creating a realistic illusion of depth and space.

In a landmark announcement during the keynote address at the annual Game Developers Conference (GDC), Microsoft Corp. promised to soon allow Xbox LIVE members to play, rate and share community-created games.
As the first in the industry to pioneer high-speed online gaming and high-definition games, Xbox 360 once again broke new ground by introducing a new, open distribution service for games created by the community and soon playable by its 10 million Xbox LIVE members.
Community-created games on Xbox LIVE will quickly double the size of the Xbox 360 game library. By the end of 2008, Xbox 360 owners will have access to more than 1,000 games, making it the largest, most creatively diverse library across all next-generation platforms.
Please tell me that this little factoid is wrong. Are we really being out blogged / webmastered by girls? If there are so many girls doing this, how come we never see them? Maybe they are counting MySpace pages as “building” their own website.
Girls also eclipse boys when it comes to building or working on Web sites for other people and creating profiles on social networking sites (70 percent of girls 15 to 17 have one, versus 57 percent of boys 15 to 17). Video posting was the sole area in which boys outdid girls: boys are almost twice as likely as girls to post video files.

The lady in the video actually says that law enforcement officials should go undercover and buy pirated CDs just to use that “crime” as probable cause to search for other things like drugs.

On Wednesday evening, February 20th, the full Moon over the Americas will turn a delightful shade of red and possibly turquoise, too. It's a total lunar eclipse—the last one until Dec. 2010.
The Sun goes down. The Moon comes up. You go out and look at the sky. Observing the eclipse is that easy. Maximum eclipse, and maximum beauty, occurs at 10:26 pm EST (7:26 pm PST).

It looks like the high definition format war may be coming to a close. Sources are saying that Toshiba is set to give up on the HDDVD format.
The move will likely put an end to a battle that has gone on for several years between consortiums led by Toshiba and Sony vying to set the standard for the next-generation DVD and compatible video equipment.
I know most of you think that $45 billion is a lot to offer for Yahoo, and technically it is, but it’s not the biggest offer we’ve seen in the last decade. Having said that, it will be a while before we see another AOL / Time Warner $180 billion blunder.
So Microsoft buying Yahoo for $44.6 billion is a big deal. No, it's a massive deal. Before Microsoft's share price dropped, it was to be the second-largest tech deal made in the past decade after AOL/Time Warner. Even more impressive? Like the AOL deal, this is a merger you can explain to your mom.
Are you feeling sleepy at work? Really need some sleep..zzz…zzz… Here’s a solution, take a nap with these eyes stickers. Close your eyes and stick it, sleep for a few minutes and regain your energy.

This just in: The Wii is really popular. Okay, that is not new, but the fact that the Wii is set to overtake the Xbox 360 by the end of the year is new. The little box that could continues to impress.
The market researcher forecasted that the global installed base of Wii game consoles will rise to 30.2 million units in 2008, up from 18 million in 2007, putting it ahead of the Xbox 360's projected 25.7 million units.

The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) was Cray Research's first official customer in July 1977, paying US$8.86 million ($7.9 million plus $1 million for the disks).
Memory was 24-bit, for a maximum of 1 megaword (8 MB) of main memory.
Its CPU performance was 160 MIPS (80 MHz × 2 instructions), generally about 136 megaflops. However, the system could peak at 250 megaflops.
Hard Drive - None Installed.
The Cray weighed 5.5 tons including the freon refrigeration system. The machine and its power supplies consumed about 115,000W of power; cooling and storage likely more than doubled this figure.
The PlayStation 3 (officially marketed PLAYSTATION 3, commonly abbreviated PS3) is the third home video game console produced by Sony Computer Entertainment and successor to the PlayStation 2 as part of the PlayStation series. The PlayStation 3 was first released on November 11, 2006, in Japan and sold for $599/€599.
The PS3 cpu is based off PowerPC-base Core @3.2GHz and 1.8 TFLOPS floating point performance.
Memory: 512MB
Storage: 60GB
The PS3 measures 12.8 inches wide by 3.8 inches high by 10.8 inches long and weighs approximately 8 lbs. The PS3 consumes 380W of power.
One PS3 would be the equivalent of around 40 Cray-1 supercomputers. Sony definitely has beat the Cray on price putting 8.86 Million dollars back into your wallet and adding the convenience of being able to fit a PS3 into a standard home is also a bonus.
The thought of $15,000 dollar monthly power bill will really get you thinking you should have bought that PS3. It truly is amazing that each one of us has the capability of owning a device that is now 40 times faster than a 10 million dollar super computer. Happy folding.
So Best Buy loses some lady’s laptop. The lady asks for $2100. Best Buy says no. Lady takes the next logical step and sues for $54 million.
"It shouldn't take a $54 million lawsuit to motivate Best Buy to address these issues," she said. Her initial offer to settle for $2,100 has been withdrawn because her expenses have risen, including time spent filing a police report and consulting with lawyers about her case, she said. Concerns about identity theft also add to her potential damages, she said.
Caveat emptor -- back-up your files regularly on media separate from your laptop. Even if Best Buy hadn't lost it, Campbell's laptop could have been lost or destroyed in any number of other ways.
That said, Best Buy didn't do the right thing, and them compounded the problem by giving Campbell the run-around. She was right to go after them.
Still, what does Best Buy's "fine print" say about lost or damages equipment while in their care. I'm sure they have a disclaimer somewhere in their "legalese."
Best Buy does owe this woman, however she does have to take some responibility for her own ignorance AKA stupidity. BACK UP YOUR DATA!

"If you unexpectedly receive a Valentine's Day e-card, be careful," the Federal Bureau of Investigation said in a statement, warning Internet users to "be on the lookout for spam emails spreading the Storm Worm malicious software (malware)."
It said, in part, "Am very sorry for you my friend, is a pity that this is how your life is going to end as soon as you don't comply. … I don't have any business with you, my duty as I am mailing you now is just to KILL/ASSASINATE you and I have to do it as I have already been paid for that."
It continued, "Get back to me now if you are ready to pay some fees to spare your life, If you are not ready for my help, then I will carry on with my job straight-up."

Yahoo has formerly rejected Microsoft’s offer. Smart move? Stupid move? Don’t care? Makes you wonder if Microsoft will up its bid or take a deal directly to shareholders.
Yahoo's rebuff raises the stakes in a battle involving two of the world's most prominent technology companies. Many analysts expect Microsoft to raise its offer by $5 billion to $12 billion to entice Yahoo to sell. Yahoo is believed to want a bid of at least $56 billion, or about $40 per share.
Polaroid, based in Waltham, Mass., is shutting down factories in the United States and abroad as the company abandons the technology that made the instant photo possible, the Boston Globe reported yesterday. The company will cease production of its film by next year.
Netflix Inc., the online movie rental company, said Monday it is switching exclusively to high definition DVDs in Blu-ray format, following four major movie studios in selecting the Sony technology over the standard put forth by Toshiba.

When it comes to home theaters, I thought I'd seen it all. But nothing's come close to this. First, I'm going to try to describe the sheer magnitude of Jeremy Kipnis' theater. His Stewart Snowmatte laboratory-grade screen is the biggest I've ever seen in a home, and in the back of the theater, there's a Sony ultra-high-resolution (4,096-by-2,160) SRX-S110 digital projector. I'm looking everywhere, jotting down questions, and Kipnis sounds almost giddy talking about his theater's capabilities.

Canadian folk rock legend Neil Young said he has lost all hope that music can change the world, as he presented a documentary about his 2006 anti-war concert tour at the Berlin film festival on Friday.
"I know that the time when music could change the world is past. I really doubt that a single song can make a difference. It is a reality," Young told reporters.

This is the indoor garden that provides you with all the necessary light, moisture, air, and nutrients for you to grow your own gourmet herbs right at your kitchen counter all without soil, sunlight, weeds, pesticides, or prior gardening experience.
The garden holds seven pods that contain a single seed embedded in a sponge; placing the matching transparent plastic dome onto each pod allows the seed to achieve necessary temperature for germination.
An organic-based nutrient-rich water solution stored in the gardens reservoir is pumped through a network of channels in the gardens grow surface and delivered directly to each of the seed pods by a drip irrigation system, ensuring proper moisture.
Two 26-watt full-spectrum fluorescent bulbs pr ovide up to 24 hours of optimal light. A micro-processor automatically adjusts nutrient and light delivery to pods as they grow, providing the necessary treatment for plants at germination, initial growth, and mature growth stages.
Designed in conjunction with legendary guitar maker Gibson (even mimicking the classic Gibson SG body design), this touch-sensitive guitar uses lights to prompt players when to chord frets and strum, making it the easiest way for children to learn to play along with music.
Players simply choose one of the 12 pre-loaded songs (including six rock classics such as Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water and The Troggs' Wild Thing) and place their fingers on the frets as they light up; brushing the strum bar plays the note. In "learn" mode, players practice songs phrase by phrase, being prompted and guided by the guitar when they err.
Other sensors in the guitar encourage creative play--the sp eed of the player's stroke on the strum bar changes the volume and tone of the note, while lifting or dipping the neck "bends" the pitch like a tremolo bar. The guitar also accommodates other special techniques like palming, hammer-ons, and pull-offs. It can be set to render notes in four different styles: rock, punk, indie, or metal.
This cooler holds a 5-liter keg and has an integrated tap that allows you to draw tavern-style draught beer with a creamy head from a kitchen countertop or home bar. An LCD shows the exact temperature of the cooler and adjusts at a touch of a button from 37 to 53 F, while a pressure gauge on the exterior of the cooler regulates the CO2 content and allows you to alter the carbonation to enhance the flavor and aroma of the draught beer.
The device has AC and DC power adapters that allow for use at home or on a boat, and the lightweight yet sturdy design ensures ease of portability and years of reliable use. Includes instructional DVD, tapping and cleaning kits, three 16-gram CO2 cartridges, and an overflow tray.
Even the jewelers at Tiffany's would be impressed by the mix of precious stones and metals thrown into this PS2 controller neck pendant. The ridiculously geeky piece is constructed from 18k white gold, with 68.34ct of black diamonds lining the controller's surface.
We were not so sure you could get 68.34ct of diamonds all in one place without owning a bank, but apparently we were wrong.

At first I thought I was reading this wrong but, as it turns out, I read it right...eBay is planning on banning negative comments about buyers. You’ll still be able to leave negative feedback on sellers though. Can anyone explain to me how this is good policy?
EBay said problems were occurring, and slowing down trade, when buyers left negative comments about sellers who then retaliated with their own views. From May, those selling on eBay will not be able to leave unfavourable or neutral messages about buyers.

That's the idea behind a different propulsion system called "scramjet," or Supersonic Combustion Ramjet: The oxygen needed by the engine to combust is taken from the atmosphere passing through the vehicle, instead of from a tank onboard. The craft becomes smaller, lighter and faster.
How fast? Researchers predict scramjet speeds could reach 15 times the speed of sound. An 18-hour trip to Tokyo from New York City becomes a 2-hour flight.
