Before Cell Phones & Text Messaging, We Had...
I'm sure quite of a few of you remember them, but before cell phones became so common place, we had these things called 'Beepers' or 'pager' and all it would do was signal someone that you wanted them to call you back, by placing your own number. Well, calling back wasn't always an option, as some people would be in their cars and there were no text messaging available at that time, so there were unofficial text message codes.
It would be a 1, 2 or 3 digit number, with a predefined message allocated to it and that is how you would send a short message. People would have to carry a little folded piece of paper that had these codes on them to either know what they were sending and what they were receiving, although some were easier to remember than others. Anyway, I still had one of these sheets...
Yes, some people would actually pull this sheet out and communicate with their buddies via their beepers. Also, the font and printing technology was piss poor back than too, as you can tell.
