I’m not really sure why but I get this feeling Lenovo won’t bet getting anything early from Microsoft again for a long, long time.
Sort of funny that Microsoft made a big show of handing over the Windows 7 RTM code to Lenovo and other manufacturers last week -- the first activation crack for the OS has just appeared, and it's based on Lenovo's OEM license key. Oops.

(de)light is a project that reinterprets the concept of light as we know it. What does it mean when you can pour illuminated liquid from archetypical components like a lightbulb?
Each motherboard wall took approximately 6 hours to assemble . The longest step by far was laying them out. Not only did we try to distribute the colors in an interesting way, but dozens of different sized boards had to fit together perfectly and not overlap the edges.
Not an easy task I assure you. Additionally, we added a third dimension by stilting approximately one fourth of the boards at different heights.
The Plus Fours Routefinder was designed to be worn on the wrist - relying on good old-fashioned paper maps wound around wooden rollers, which the driver turned en route.
The tiny scrolls also showed the mileage and gave a "stop" instruction at the journey's end.
Robert Q. Riley has finished designing and building his XR3 diesel hybrid prototype and now says, "Its your turn!". Yes, with a few simple tools and plans purchased from Mr. Riley, you too can (eventually) cruise the highways in your very own XR3.
Engineered to travel 40 miles with lithium ion batteries powering the back wheel before switching on the Kubota diesel engine that power the fronts, the XR3 is said by its maker to get 225 mpg.
Unlike other telescopes that require you to input data such as time, date, or zip code for initial set-up, this one performs all the work for you with the flip of a switch.
It uses a GPS module to gather the date, time, and location automatically, then orients itself relative to the night sky. Its built-in CCD camera locates a pair of alignment stars from its database of 100,000 celestial objects.
This is the scooter that requires riders to step--instead of pedal--up and down on a pair of pedals for smooth forward motion. The scooter uses an innovative pedal recovery and drive system to transfer the force from each pedal downstroke into rear axle rotation.
Two parallel offset crank shafts engage a pair of gears to produce the reciprocal pedal recovery, providing riders with smooth, comfortable downward strokes. A brake lever controls the front wheel's disc brake for confident stops.
'The switch was worn day and night for close to a month. I remember after leaving the place where it was done I had to overtake some people on the path.
I knew they would see it, so that was a big moment, then after that I relaxed a little. I went into a pub once and ordered a drink. It felt like the music and pool balls came to a stop for a second or so. Then started up again.'

A SEVERE female drought has gripped Mount Isa, but Mayor John Molony thinks he has the answer: send in the ugly girls. Men outnumber women at a ratio of about five to one in the testosterone town and the female famine is taking its toll on young blokes, who call it the 'beer goggle capital of Australia."
In a small unassuming area in the product development department is a room that contains some very special SEGA history. This is the watch with a barometer, altimeter, compass, and thermometer, keeping you constantly abreast of conditions while you engage in outdoor adventures. The barometer provides a precise digital readout in either inches of Mercury (inHg) or Millibar//HectoPascals (mbar/hpa).
A graphic display shows pressure change trends. The altimeter uses barometric pressure and accepts daily calibration to a known altitude to provide enhanced accuracy. It registers elevations from -2,305' to +30,045' to within one foot, and sounds its alarm when you reach a pre-determined altitude.
The Wonderbra version featured the enthusiastic and energetic musical efforts of a scantily-clad brunette whose upper-body stability was only maintained thanks to her brassière.

Of the bunch, this was the hands down winner as far as flavor is concerned. The peach and mango flavors pair nicely with the base of sweetened carbonated dairy, delivering something that’s slightly reminiscent of a lassi drink.
However, what starts out seeming not so sweet turns almost overwhelming by the time you are half way through the bottle. Otherwise, the combination of milk, carbonated water, sweetener, and flavor is one that is enjoyable, although probably not on a regular basis.
This wireless electronic scoreboard displays and updates the scores of every professional football game, including the exhibition and regular seasons, Super Bowl, and Pro Bowl without requiring a subscription, service fees, or connection to a computer.

This device instantly verifies the authenticity of a diamond and detects the presence of moissanite and cubic zirconia, the two most common diamond simulants. The handheld unit uses thermal and electrical conductivity testing--the same verification methods used by gemologists--to determine if a stone is a natural diamond or a counterfeit.
This is the camcorder and media recorder that enables you to record your videos to a DVD without a computer, ideal for distributing multiple DVDs of celebrations to guests. The camcorder houses an 80GB hard drive, storing up to 14 hours of video at its highest resolution (720 x 480), captured with its sensitive 800K pixel CCD.
Videos can be immediately recorded to a DVD by attaching the camcorder to the recorder using the included USB cable; the recording process is controlled from the camcorder and if your videos run longer than a single DVD can hold, the camera will prompt you to insert another DVD.

Her uniform looks good, with striped scarf and blue cap in perfect order, but railway employee Mitsue Endo has one thing to do before she faces the masses — pass the smile test.
She breaks into a broad grin and the computer responds cheerfully, giving her a score of 70.
The company has installed the system to help employees check their smiles before heading out to face customers. The test is optional, but at major stations like Shinagawa, the 250,000 riders who pass through per day can be rushed and agitated, and a happy face can go a long way.
Someone once said that necessity is the mother of all invention. Prison is one of the few places where very few common wants and needs are fulfilled; resources are incredibly limited and ardently regulated.
This is the remote control dune buggy that can detect buried metallic objects when driven over suitable terrain, including backyards, dirt lots, low grass, or flat sand. The buggy can detect buried iron-based metals down to 4" and when it does, it flashes a red LED and begins beeping to alert you of potential treasure.
The remote controls forward, backward, left, and right movement from up to 25' away. Metal detecting sensitivity can be modified to suit the terrain with a simple dial on the buggy. Includes three faux gold doubloons (metal) to bury and two plastic digging tools.
These illuminated, blinking eyes project a sinister gaze at visitors as they approach your home, giving guests the eerie feeling they are being watched.
The eyes adhere to a window with the built-in suction cups, set up in your yard with the included lawn stakes, or hang in bushes, and can be set to blink slowly or project a fixed, ominous stare.
Using electroluminescent technology (the same backlighting used in automotive instrument panels), the pupils and eyelids project a bright red glow that is clearly visible day or night.
A 22-year-old gamer has spent $26,500 (£13,700) on an island that exists only in a computer role-playing game (RPG).

Inspired by the iconic reflective stage light invented by Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo in 1907, this is the reproduction of the Fortuny moda lamp that revolutionized theatrical lighting.
Dubbed the "Magician of Venice" by his contemporaries, Fortuny invented the indirect lighting methods that are still prominent on cinematic and photographic sets today. Made in Rome, Italy, the lamp's 500-watt incandescent bulb projects brilliant beams of light against the shade's white interior.
The shade diffuses and reflects the light to highlight artwork or cast a warm glow onto a wall. The Fortuny moda lamp's tubular steel tripod frame and concave cotton shade represent the early modernist emphasis on industrial materials, functional style, and the spatial role of objects.
This is the shirtpocket camera that takes 30 pictures per second, allowing you to select the best possible shot of a quickly turned head, kicked soccer ball, or golf swing--or a rare encounter with a Hollywood legend.
You can easily search through a series of shots on the 2.7" LCD to find the precise moment when a bat hits a ball or to capture the fleeting smile of an infant. Its high-speed 9 megapixel CMOS captures finely detailed, crisp images at 3456 x 2592 resolution. It also can take up to 1,000 frame-per-second high-speed videos at 224 x 64 resolution, enabling you to capture every nuance of any rapid-motion activity.

This is the only web camera that records three-dimensional videos. Using the same technique as in 3D movies, its two cameras record slightly differing images, which are combined to create an anaglyph--a stereoscopic image.
A viewer needs nothing more than 3D cyan/red glasses (5 pairs included) to see the three-dimensional image. The camera "hangs" from the top of your monitor with its arms and plugs into your PC running Windows XP or Vista using its built-in USB cable. Its two cameras can capture video at 800 x 600 resolution at 15 frames per second, and it can focus in up to 12" away for dramatic 3D images.

There was barely enough room to tread water as thousands of swimmers crowded into a pool in an attempt to escape China's scorching heatwave. But the fact there was no elbow room was not going to stop the fun in the world's most populous nation.
Families desperate to escape the heat grabbed their rubber rings to jostle for space at a local pool in Nanjing, the capital of the Jiangsu Province.
It really is the pits with this ingenious new advertising idea - "Pitvertising"! The landmark, ground-breaking, never-been-done-before initiative features digital TV screens built into the armpit of a shirt to promote - what else? - Right Guard deodorant.

The 31-year-old woman, who is scheduled to take her vows at a Turin convent this fall, said the picture was taken three years ago at a Sicilian beach, ANSA reported Wednesday. The lawsuit seeks to have the picture, labeled by the poster as a "topless nun," removed from the social networking site
It was made 73 years ago - and unlike modern gadgets it was built to last. A television that was around for King George VI's 1937 Coronation and survived the Blitz has today been unveiled as Britain's oldest working set.

A scientist has developed a catalyst that can extract hydrogen from urine and says it could be used to power hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the near future. Garadine Botte hasn’t received much federal funding for her project, though she’s got some people in the Department of Defense interested. Now soldiers can work as a team to cool their overheated truck and then fuel it up.
One of hydrogen’s biggest stumbling blocks to use as an alternative fuel is the amount of energy needed to produce it. And then there’s the matter of distributing it. Botte says her gadget eliminates such problems because it’s small enough to integrate into an automobile. Urine is also readily available — your body produces two to three liters of it each day, and it is the most abundant form of waste on the planet. We could treat waste water while fueling our cars.
Gun-toting truck drivers in the United States have been given a new incentive to upgrade their vehicle - a free AK-47 machine gun with every pick-up purchased. During August, all sales at Max Motors in Butler, south of Kansas, will be accompanied by a voucher for a complimentary semi-automatic weapon, owner Mark Muller announced.
It is not the fist time the dealership - which goes by the slogan 'Guns, God, Guts and American Pick-Up Trucks' - has run such a promotion.

If you are planning a BBQ with friends and family, do not…I repeat…do not make a Facebook post alerting everyone or SWAT will show up (helicopter and all). I don’t know why this guy is complaining, in Texas, it’s not even considered a party until the SWAT helicopter arrives.
Riot police stormed a 30th birthday party for just 15 people and shut it down, thinking it was a rave because it was advertised on Facebook. Four police cars, a riot van and a helicopter were involved in the swoop on Andrew Poole's gathering for his family and friends.
While taking public transportation or purchasing a hybrid vehicle may be viable options, these motion simulators are hard to beat when it comes to value.
You know your ad campaign is doing well when Apple’s lawyers call you. Considering Apple's own "I'm a Mac" ads, the company trying to get Microsoft to stop running these ads is just priceless. Apple and Justin Long had no comment for this story.
And you know why I know they're working? Because two weeks ago we got a call from the Apple legal department saying, hey -- this is a true story -- saying, "Hey, you need to stop running those ads, we lowered our prices." They took like $100 off or something. It was the greatest single phone call in the history that I've ever taken in business.
It is a breathtaking - and death-defying feat - which redefines the term extreme sport. Battling both gravity and the elements, the climber claws her way up a granite boulder by just her fingertips. For most, the lack of ropes and safety equipment would be a perilous step too far.
A study of former soldiers in the United States has indicated that differences in IQ may explain almost a quarter of the differences in mortality between people of higher and lower social classes.
An acoustic instrument bristling with buttons and knobs is always off to a good start, but Patrick Sébastien Coulombe’s “la Guitare à crayon” goes a few steps further into strangeness. Taking the body of an acoustic guitar and then strapping a Wacom digitizer to the front, the unusual instrument translates sketched images into sound.
The Gunbus 410 cubic inch V-Twin motorcycle is complete. The monster engine placed in a motorcycle frame of comparable size looked impossible and many who saw the photos were skeptical of the bike ever being finished but I guess, Clemens F. Leonhardt is one of those persistent guys who ignores the naysayers and keeps at his work.
From flight to gymnastics to the circus to space travel, no matter how much gravity holds us all together the human mind is always enthralled with new ways to make it seem as if we break free from the Earth’s hold.
Here's a close-up look into the Tornado Intercept Vehicle, a heavily-armored, modified Ford F-450 that was used in the famous Discovery Channel's Storm Chasers. With its plates, small windows and top turret, it looks like a cross between a B-17 Flying Fortress, a Panzer tank and a Mad Max truck.

I was discussing throwing stars with my son last night when out of nowhere I had a powerful nostalgic moment as I fondly remembered wasting away hours of classtime making paper throwing stars and instigating warfare amonst my classmates.
Sega could do anything in the early 1990s, such was the dominance of the Mega Drive. It was, dear children, a bit like the PlayStation2 of its day. Everyone knew its name, everyone wanted one, even the Game Gear was a bit cool like PSP and its TV adverts were stylish and much talked about. But sometimes power goes to your head…

A World Of Warcraft player is in hot water after he allegedly threatened to blow up an airplane. Charges were later dropped when authorities realized the 18 year old Level 80 Rogue Virgin hasn’t actually left his mother’s basement since he graduated 2 years ago.
The man, who originally told investigators that someone had hacked into his computer, admitted he jokingly made the threats, which did not name a specific airline, because he had heard that merely doing so would bring police to his house, "but I didn't really believe it," he said in a written statement.

Finger yoga is hatha yoga for the fingers. Extremities need yoga like every other part of the body. However hands are rarely given much attention in yoga classes - where focus naturally is concentrated on very important areas - such as the spine.
To a certain extent, hands represent a microcosm of the organs of action. They need a slightly different emphasis, perhaps from the other limbs. In particular, they are easier to apply excess force to, and potentially expose more connective tissue to stretching forces.

Some people think of sword swallowing as a magic trick. After all, as with most magic tricks, sword swallowing doesn't seem like something that should be possible. It can be a little easier to accept the idea that it's all an illusion than to believe that a person can guide a long piece of metal all the way into his stomach.

You know how sometimes your toast doesn't quite pop out of the toaster fully? And because your judgment is a little impaired that early in the morning, you decide to jam a fork in there to dig it out only to be electrocuted and rushed to the hospital?
Sure, we have all been there. However, Freddie Yauner, the dude behind "The Moaster," will not have to worry about that anytime soon because he has set the record for the "highest popping in toaster the world" according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Thanks to this guy’s fantastic YouTube video, a year-long fight with United Airlines over a broken $3,500 guitar has come to an end. It can be built to order with a desktop Mac or PC, as well as the biggest docking station ever for laptops. If you want one, you will have to go rob a bank—price is not listed yet, but we can imagine lots of zeros in it.
Whereas conventional dishes are round, concave and grey, the Sqish is a flat square, giving it its name.
Buyers decide where they want the receiver placed on their house, take a photograph of the surrounding wall and the Sqish is then supplied to match its background.
It's been an exciting nine months since we launched the Google Chrome browser. Already, over 30 million people use it regularly. We designed Google Chrome for people who live on the web — searching for information, checking email, catching up on the news, shopping or just staying in touch with friends.
However, the operating systems that browsers run on were designed in an era where there was no web. So today, we're announcing a new project that's a natural extension of Google Chrome — the Google Chrome Operating System. It's our attempt to re-think what operating systems should be.
Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we're already talking to partners about the project, and we'll soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.
I came across this car in front of work Friday and snapped a photo. After getting back to my computer I had to take it to the next level and give this person a personalized award.

As the world’s population increases at a more-than-healthy rate and the cost of travel decreases, the number of people looking to travel by air is understandably on the rise. With this growing demand comes the need for more airports as existing ones struggle to cope with the millions of passengers passing through on a daily basis.
So what happens when there’s no suitable land to build a new major airport or locals protest the new construction without hesitation due to noise pollution or other environmental implications?
Think your car is bad ass? I know a radio-controlled car that can kick its ass. With a top speed of 161mph, the car is appropriately named the "pocket rocket."
Ever wonder which countries had the most cybercrime? Well, wonder no more because BusinessWeek has a list of the top twenty countries, complete with bot rank, phishing website rank, malicious computer activity and more.
Symantec learned that countries with the most high-speed Internet connections rank high since constantly connected systems tend to be more attractive to cybercriminals. The top three countries in Symantec's list are the U.S., China, and Germany—all of them with high concentrations of broadband connections. The U.S. alone accounted for 23% of all malicious computer activity last year.
Eating insects such as wasps and grasshoppers has health benefits and should be encouraged in the Western diet, scientists have said. The bugs are rich in protein and some minerals and are lower in cholesterol than beef or pork.
A terminally ill man has won £5,000 after betting he would live to see June. Eight months ago doctors told Jon Matthews, 58, of Milton Keynes: "Don't make plans for Christmas."
You think the guy calling 9-1-1 the other day because McDonald’s didn’t give him the correct amount of change was bad? As this group of videos can attest, people using 9-1-1 for non-emergencies has been a staple of local news and internet hilarity since the beginning of time.

Feller retired t’other day and got himself a new kind of rockin’ chair. Rocks itself. Rocks him, too. Semms like when this feller, a machinist type, quit to take it easy, some other fellers he’d worked with said, “Well now! How about havin’ a chair that rocks automatic-like?” So they built it out of a one-cylinder gas engine and gears.

The age of the supermodel is definitely not over. The world’s top models have proved their earning power this year despite fashion designers downgrading their runway shows because of the recession. For the second year in a row, Gisele Bündchen, the Brazilian model tops Forbes magazine'd richest models list.
The MySpace Mishap of the Day™ has to be this story about a police officer in Iowa being fired for posting semi-nude pictures on Facebook. Before you get all grossed out by that mental image, it was a totally hot female officer. In related news, Iowa has hot stripper chick cops!!
Police Chief John Gray, at a recent state hearing that dealt with Keller's request for unemployment benefits, said photographs on Keller's Web site "depicted Officer Keller in a bar surrounded by male and female patrons. ... In one photograph, she is displaying her naked buttocks or mooning the person who is taking the picture. In another, she is performing simulated sex acts on both males and females."
A floor literally tiled with thousands of copper pennies… it’s pretty surprising to look down and see them when you walk into The Standard Grill in the Standard Hotel New York, below the Highline.
Staff at a design and marketing company in Newcastle spent a day working together naked after being told it would improve their morale.
David Taylor, a business psychologist, told workers at design and marketing onebestway, in Newcastle upon Tyne, that a Naked Friday idea would boost their team spirit.
Last Friday, I was talking to a friend at work about how I had a video projector at home, but I didn't have a good place to use it in our house.
Our bedroom TV, and old 27" that we've had for about 10 years, bit the dust late last year and we haven't replaced it, but we didn't have a nice blank wall or mounting area for a screen in the room. On the way home, I had an idea to construct a rear projection screen at the foot of our king sized bed.
Creeping closer inch by inch – 900ft above the mighty Colorado River – the two sides of a £160million bridge at the Hoover Dam in America slowly take shape.
The bridge will carry a new section of US Route 93 past the bottleneck of the old road which can be seen twisting and winding around and across the dam itself.
When complete, it will provide a new link between the states of Nevada and Arizona. In an incredible feat of engineering, the road will be supported on the two massive concrete arches which jut out of the rock face.
The arches are made up of 53 individual sections – each 24ft long – which have been cast on-site and are being lifted into place using an improvised high-wire crane strung between temporary steel pylons.

If you're scared of heights, it may be time to look away now. Not content with having the tallest building in America, the owners of Sears Tower in Chicago have installed four glass box viewing platforms which stick out of the building 103 floors up.
The balconies are suspended 1,353 feet in the air and jut out four feet from the building's Skydeck
You work late. Like, every night. You probably screwed up your last steady relationship, and, well, maybe there's no one to curl up next to in bed when you stumble in the door at night.
Drew Burrows knows the feeling. "I'm in this grad program right now, and it's totally consuming," he said. "I come home every night to an empty bed." So Burrows, 28, engineered (literally) a solution, which he unveiled to the public last night at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program Spring Show at Tisch School of the Arts.
The robot, which was used by a surgeon at the Christie Hospital in Manchester, has four arms which rotate 360 degrees and can carry out procedures with extraordinary precision.
Most of the corpses are wearing clothes, it is true, many of them are sitting up, and whole rows of them are standing. But standing is only a mistake of vision: they are hanging from hooks, so their feet don’t normally touch the ground.
A newly built 13-storey residential building collapsed in Shanghai yesterday, killing one worker.
The block of high-rise flats toppled onto its side in the muddy construction site raising concerns that building safety standards are being overlooked in favour of fast construction in China's rush to modernise.
The building appeared to be almost complete with fitted windows and a finished, tiled facade. Other similar-looking blocks in the same property development were still standing nearby.
An asteroid impact is also the stuff of science fact. There are obvious craters on Earth (and the moon) that show us a long history of large objects hitting the planet. The most famous asteroid ever is the one that hit Earth 65 million years ago.
It's thought that this asteroid threw so much moisture and dust in to the atmosphere that it cut off sunlight, lowering temperatures worldwide and causing the extinction of the dinosaurs.
Ah the nineties! All the cringe of the eighties with none of the talent. You’d wake up in the morning with your greasy sun-in hair, throw on a flannel shirt, a pair of light blue baggy or ripped jeans, clip on the ol’ wallet chain, and slip into your green colored Doc Martens. And as you slammed your Pogs and snapped your Slap Bracelet, you might have been listening to one of these… (Page me when you’re done enjoying the tunes.)
Making the perfect resume is an art form. You want to include as much of your pertinent work history as possible without it becoming a book. You want to give as much personal information as possible without including Polaroids from spring break. So what is a geek to do if your resume looks a little "bland?" Do what this guy did.
If you are still running the beta version of Windows 7, someone will come to your house every two hours and punch you in the face until your dumb ass installs the release candidate. That's what I heard anyway.
Beginning today, users that are still running the trial version of the company's next OS will see it shut down every two hours. The interruptions are designed to encourage early adopters to move to Windows 7 Release Candidate, a more polished preview version of Vista's successor.

Remember those coin-operated “claw” games in the 80’s, where you could snag some fuzzy dice if you moved the robot hand with enough skill?
Well the Japanese arcades have a weirder, more sophisticated version. Having long moved on from useless stuffed animal prizes, the clientèle are hungry for something more interesting and substantial… like a delicious live lobster!
